Custom Engraved Photo on Black Anodized Aluminum

Sometime ago when my friend John's lovely chocolate lab, Dakota, died, he gave me a photo and said he wanted it engraved. I thought of the laser, which can do a pretty good job of looking like a photo. That wasn't what John wanted - he wanted her engraved the old fashioned way. I chose anodized aluminum as the contrast is good and without salt spray lasts well outside.

Scanning the photo was simple but digitizing it and then choosing a fill for each area took many hours, but it was a labor of love and now when we visit John at his cabin, we can see Dakota watching her fish.
